Join the Transit Future Campaign in Springfield
CNT and other transit advocates have pointed out the importance of a sound public transit system in mitigating climate change. We have shown that the cuts in service resulting from the so-called “doomsday scenarios” will lead to increased household transportation costs throughout Northeastern Illinois. We are at a crossroads for the future: If Chicago is going to be a remain a world-class city, it needs high-quality mass transit.
Unfortunately, with an almost record-breaking stalemate currently in Springfield, solutions and leadership are not what we can look forward to. Unfortunately, real mass transit solutions are not even close to the focus of Illinois’ lawmakers right now.
Transit advocates are planning the second Transit Lobby Day in Springfield for July 25th. While the Transit Future Campaign was successful in reaching out to many lawmakers during our last lobby day, there are still many legislators who need to hear about what is at stake for the region. And as the end of July approaches, it is a crucial time to remind the General Assembly and the Governor that the transit crisis must be resolved before session is adjourned.
For this lobby day there will have a free bus to Springfield in the morning and return the same evening. The bus will leave from downtown Chicago at 6:30 AM and return at 9 PM. Please plan on joining in for this very important day! If you are new to lobbying, tips will be provided on how to talk to legislators, materials to give them and the best places to find them.
