Accomplishments
2007 Key Accomplishments:
- Launched the Energy Savers Program to retrofit 2,500 units of affordable rental housing annually in Cook County, as part of the Preservation Compact.
- Expanded real time electricity pricing across Illinois.
- Fought for reliable and affordable mass transit.
- Launched an interactive green infrastructure map of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
- Expanded I-GO car sharing to 170 cars and 7,000 members in Chicago, Evanston, and Oak Park.
- Performed a comprehensive analysis of Chicago’s greenhouse gas emissions and researched 33 reduction strategies for the Chicago Climate Action Plan, to be released in early 2008.
2007 in Pictures
CNT partnered with the Al Raby School for Community and Environment to teach students about Green Infrastructure and native plants.
A visit from Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai, after whom the garden is named, made the dedication event all the more special.
CNT also partnered with St. Margaret Mary Church and School, in an effort to reduce flooding from their parking lot.
“Tools for Sustainable Communities” showcased the tools that CNT develops to make communities more livable and sustainable.
I-GO member surveys reveal that I-GO members walk, bike, and use public transit more, leading to a healthier and greener lifestyle.
At the “Step It Up” rally, staff member Peter Haas spoke about how citizens can take action to stop climate change.
