The Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune favorably responds to last week’s release of Driven to Spend with some sharp words for lawmakers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region seeking to cut transit and raise fares.

A new study by CNT and the Surface Transportation Policy Project STPP examines the impacts of transportation spending on households, especially lower-income ones, in the 28 metro areas for which the federal government collects expenditure data. The report shows that:
–households in regions that have invested in public transportation reap financial benefits, even as gasoline prices rise;
–regions with public transit lose less per household from the increase in gas prices than those without transit; and
–lower-income households are particularly burdened by higher transportation costs since these expenditures claim a higher percentage of household budgets.
Read the report and find out where your region ranks.
