CNT Applauds A New Direction

CNT was thrilled to see Barack Obama, a Chicago community organizer and former CNT Board member, take the Presidential Oath of Office on Tuesday. As the first President since Theodore Roosevelt grounded in urban living, we look forward to a new direction in Federal policy that moves our country in a sustainable direction that both improves the economy for everyone and protects the environment.

Many CNT staff were in Washington for the Inauguration and helped document their experiences over Monday and Tuesday. Also, check out staff photos at CNT’s Flickr Gallery from the events leading up to and at the Inauguration.

Back to Springfield, IL when he first announced his candidacy, to even further back when he sat on CNT’s Board of Directors, CNT staff have been following the path of our new President of the United States. This inauguration, several staff traveled by plane, train and carpool to D.C. and attended the CNT co-hosted Green Inaugural Ball, as well as the inaugural ceremony and parade and the Home States Ball.

Green Inaugural Ball

The CNT co-hosted event, held in D.C. at Smithsonian’s Center of American Art & Portraiture, mixed environmental leaders with celebrities concerned about the environmental agenda of the new President while Al Gore gave a keynote. Described as the “hottest party in D.C.” that night, party-goers celebrated a new Administration.

Staff members had different vantages but overall, the feeling of anew was felt by all. Even a security guard couldn’t help from beaming as one staffer passed by. The spirit felt at the Inauguration is one we all hope can continue is these troubling but opportunity-filled times.

Home States Ball

Meanwhile, CNT Vice President, Jacky Grimshaw, gave some thoughtful words at the Home States Ball to the Chicago Tribune, as the (now) former neighbor of President Obama.

Finally, CEO Kathy Tholin got some great photos and video at the Illinois Neighborhood Ball.
