Former “Neighborhood Works” Editor, Thom Clark, Becomes 2009 Studs Terkel Awardee

thom_clarkOn Wednesday evening, along with other three journalists who, like their predecessor Studs Terkel, “go the extra mile to report news”, Community Media Workshop Founder and Director, Thom Clark, was honored with a 2009 Studs Terkel Award. Thom founded the Community Media Workshop to provide communications coaching to grassroots groups, arts organizations, and other nonprofits to diversify the voices in the news, on the Web, and other public forums.

From 1981-1986, Thom edited The Neighborhood Works, CNT’s nationally known bottom-up policy journal. His work won a Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club.

The Studs Terkel Community Media Awards celebrates the talent in an ever-changing media landscape as well as Studs’ phenomenal life. As Studs said, the awards celebrate …”the people who made Chicago, news that’s bottom up rather than up, down. That’s what this is all about.”
