An Overview of Connecting Communities

By 2001, the Citizen Transportation plan was becoming dated. The Chicago Area Transportation Study was preparing to launch a new planning effort to develop a plan for 2030. CTAQC wanted to gather up-to-date public priorities to influence that plan. CTAQC was also dissatisfied with CATS’ public outreach processes and want to offer an alternative model of genuine involvement.

The Connecting Communities summits were designed to bring a wide range of stakeholders together in a community-based setting to develop consensus recommendations for their part of the region. Extensive documentation of each summit formed the basis of local and regional recommendations.
