The 2030 Regional Transportation Plan

The Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) has produced a draft plan for transportation investments in the Chicago region. The public is invited to comment on the plan between now and September 2, 2003. The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC) is sponsoring public hearings on this plan and on their forecasts for regional growth between August 25th and September 2nd. The dates and locations of the meetings, as well as a link to the full text of the plan can be found at http://www.nipc.cog.il.us/hearings_rtp2030.htm.

The Center for Neighborhood Technology monitors CATS continuously and has reservations about the plan offered. It is not responsive to the public priorities clearly stated during our Connecting Communities Summits or in other public involvement activities sponsored by NIPC, Chicago Metropolis 2020 or CATS.

We encourage you to comment on how your tax dollars are spent and offer the following information:

A map showing how the new projects are distributed throughout the region relative to where the population actually lives.

An example of how the plan could guide investment decisions and make that information transparent to the public.
