Community
Action
While recognizing that community involvement was
important, at the same time it became apparent that actions needed to be taken
to address the disconnect between public agencies and community based efforts.
Walker Win! has functioned as that bridge for the past year. In the past year,
the Humboldt Park community has been a focal point for the following Walkers
Win! efforts:
Walkers Win! strives to protect the Chicago
Ave pedestrian environment by working with the Chicago Department of
Transportation (CDOT) to create alternatives to a recently announced
street-widening proposal.
Walkers Win! continues to work with several
community groups, such as the Humboldt Park Economic Development Corporation,
to increase the neighborhood walkability of Humboldt Park residents near North
Ave.
Walkers Win! worked with CATS to coordinate
a
Walkable
Communities Workshop, on behalf of the Humboldt Park Community in October,
2001.
