Project Archive

Here are some of our older projects that have fueled a generation of community development and learning institutions, earning us a reputation as an economic innovator and leader in the field of creative sustainable development.

COD Case Study: Chicago

Cargo-Oriented Development (COD) was born as a community development strategy through our engagement with Chicago’s South Suburbs.

COD Case Study: Memphis

In 2013, we helped Memphis Mayor A C Wharton craft his Blueprint for Prosperity – a bold plan to reduce poverty in Memphis by 10% in 10 years. Part of the plan included helping the city capitalize on its freight assets to spark economic growth.

COD Case Study: New Orleans-Baton Rouge

The Greater New Orleans-Baton Rouge area, home to around two million people, is the latest region to explore cargo-oriented development strategies with us.

COD Case Study: Ohio

We helped stakeholders across Ohio understand how and where to unlock the economic development potential of freight rail investments.

Location Efficiency Hub

Much like energy efficiency, the idea of location efficiency provides a new lens for using resources in a smarter, more sustainable way. Location-efficient communities are dense and vibrant, with walkable streets, access to transit, proximity to jobs, mixed land uses, and concentrations of retail and services.

Bringing Car Share to Chicago

In the late 1990s, CNT’s Jacky Grimshaw visited Germany. In lieu of the usual souvenirs, she brought back an idea: car sharing as an alternative to car ownership.
